Man sentenced for 2022 murder of Arlington car dealership owner

Adel Elhindawi, the proprietor of Salem Autos, was shot on Monday, May 16, 2022, while attempting to pick up a loaner vehicle that had not been returned. Three days later, he passed away from his wounds.

Elhindawi had two children and was a husband.

Two days after the incident, Brian Espy was taken into custody in Grand Prairie.

Three weeks prior to the incident, Espy purchased an automobile off the lot, but according to dealership staff, the vehicle had mechanical problems. A loaner was offered while Salem Autos worked on the vehicle.

The loaner was never brought back to the dealership, even though the automobile was fixed and given back two weeks later.

Elhindawi went to pick up the loaner with another staff member. He was shot at that point.

According to the authorities, Espy opened fire as the employee with Elhindawi started the Jeep and attempted to leave the parking area.

Elhindawi was hit in the head while in another car and collided with a parked Cadillac.

According to an arrest affidavit, Espy then got into his girlfriend’s vehicle. After the girlfriend allegedly blocked the employee operating the Jeep, authorities claimed Espy came out, brandished a gun, and seized the car. Then he took off in his car.

According to Elhindawi’s staff, Espy was being helped by him even though Salem Autos didn’t often lend out cars.
