What we are aware of:Officer Isaiah Bias, 28, was physically abused by an inmate in a holding cell at the Ellis County jail on Monday afternoon, according to Sheriff Brad Norman.
Despite their best efforts, fellow cops were unable to resuscitate him.
After being transported to the Waxahachie hospital, Officer Bias was declared deceased.
Aaron Thompson, an Ennis resident, 45, was found to be the offending convict.
Charged with three charges of assault on a public official and fleeing arrest, he had been incarcerated since November.
He is currently facing capital murder charges. After being arraigned, he was given a $2 million bond.
“Law enforcement and jail officials typically deal with decent people who are having a rough day. Sometimes we have to deal with nasty people. Sheriff Norman remarked, “I can honestly say that my staff has dealt with pure evil over the last day.”
Who Was Officer Isaiah Bias
According to the sheriff, he had known Officer Bias since he was around fourteen years old. He enrolled in the department’s Explorers program for teenagers and young adults at that point.
In 2016, Bias spent around a year working at the sheriff’s office before departing to enroll in Navarre College. He has been employed by the agency ever since he returned there in 2019 as a correctional officer.
“He had a strong focus on his family. Sheriff Norman stated, “He was able to see his sister’s baby the day it was born. The baby is one week old.” “He was adored by everyone who worked with him at the jail. He was the type of guy who would come to your aid if you needed it. Fantastic. An exceptional individual.
What’s Next: According to Sheriff Norman, the Texas Rangers will be thoroughly investigating the events leading up to the fatal attack.
According to the sheriff, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is working with that investigation to make sure justice is done.
