Texas’s MesquiteAfter his 9-month-old daughter was discovered “extremely malnourished” and “clearly deceased,” according to an arrest complaint, Amequiteman was taken into custody and charged with capital murder.
Leon Johnson, a 22-year-old guy, called emergency dispatch because the baby was not breathing and was not responding. Police were informed by dispatch that the family performed CPR on the youngster several times and that the “child was beyond help.”
On December 13, 2024, at around 9:45 a.m., police arrived at the residence located in Mesquite in the 3500 block of Byrd Dr. The cop was led to the infant in the back of an ambulance. The officer observes that the baby looked terribly emaciated and was pale.
Police were informed by ambulance staff that two persons had met them in the driveway and given them the baby. The baby was declared dead right away. Leon Johnson and his sister were recognized as the adults.

The arrest document states that although the residence was “in complete disarray and officers had to move objects out of the way as they moved through the house,” an officer conducted a protective scan of the house and discovered a friendly, medium-sized dog upstairs.
Johnson informed an officer that Maliyah Johnson, his child, had gone a few days without eating and would regurgitate anything she consumed. To keep her hydrated, he told the cops he was giving her Pedialyte supplements, but he was worried she might take too much. He claimed that when he woke up at nine in the morning, he discovered her lying in vomit. He claimed to have scooped her up and held her in his arms. Following another spit-up, she made a “gurgling sound before she fell out of his arms.”
To look into it, Child Protective Services was contacted. Johnson informed the cops that he had been the child’s guardian for almost a month and a half.
After being taken into custody, Johnson was checked into the Dallas County Jail. A $1,000,000 bond has been posted for him.
