North Texas:Is December typically this warm? Many people in the Dallas region are wondering that after waking up to exceptionally high temperatures this morning.

By the numbers:

Mid-December temperatures in the 70s may seem strange, but Dallas experienced a similar day the previous year.

Temperatures in the low 70s were also recorded on December 16, 2023.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the average temperature on December 16 is normally around 68 degrees, thus today’s temps are slightly warmer than normal—by around 6 degrees.

Today’s weather:

Today’s forecast is for warm, wet weather with a potential of thunderstorms throughout the metroplex.

The mid-70s will continue to be the norm, with some regions possibly seeing upper 70s temperatures.

North Texas will experience sporadic showers this morning until around noon, after which there will be a little respite.

This evening, storms are predicted to form once more, bringing with them the potential for small hail, strong gusts, and a lot of rain.

What’s next:

A warm front is expected to drive temperatures back into the low 70s by the afternoon, but Tuesday morning will bring lower temperatures in the low 40s and 50s. There will be intermittent rains and a gloomy morning.

With temperatures staying in the 50s and a 40% to 50% chance of showers throughout the day, Wednesday is expected to bring lower, chillier weather.
