NEW YORK:A former high school standout from North Texas might be taking home the Heisman Trophy when it is presented in New York on Saturday night.
Ashton Jeanty, a running back for Boise State, is one of four Heisman Trophy contenders.
Prior to dominating collegiate football this season, Jeanty was a standout player at Frisco Lone Star High School.
The running back scored 31 touchdowns and rushed for 1,835 in 12 games during the Frisco Lone Stars’ 2021–2022 season.
The Heisman would cap off a busy awards season for Jeanty, who had already taken home the Doak Walker Award, which goes to the nation’s best running back, and the Maxwell Award, which goes to the finest player in college football.
“This is among the objectives I set out to accomplish. Jeanty told reporters, “I knew I would be in New York to possibly win this award.”
With 2,496 rushing yards, the running back leads the country and is only 132 yards short of Barry Sanders’ NCAA record.

A major factor in Boise State’s 12-1 season was Jeanty. In the College Football Playoffs this year, the Broncos are ranked ninth.
Jeff Rayburn, Jeanty’s old high school coach, was quick to respond when asked who should win this year’s Heisman.
“He deserves to win the Heisman Trophy without a doubt. Based on his statistical achievements, he has guided his team to the College Football Playoffs and a conference championship. Rayburn remarked, “Jeanty is the best player on one of the best teams in the nation.” “What he’s done and the impact he’s had on his team, surpasses that of anybody else I think is out there.”
