Sen. Royce West of Texas spoke at a press conference on Friday to emphasize the changes that are taking place, particularly on the southern portion of the loop.
By the Numbers: Over the course of five years, Loop 12 has seen 500 accidents that resulted in significant injuries, 105 of which were fatal.

One of the modifications is lowering the speed limit on southern Loop 12 from Interstate 35 past Bonnie View Road in Sunnyvale to beyond Interstate 45 and Great Trinity Forest Way from 45 mph to 40 mph.
In order to warn drivers, speed feedback signs and painted highway speed are planned.
Over the course of the next year and a half, 16 locations for traffic signals will be erected, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Additionally, a signal will be installed by the city close to Glendale Park.
According to Chief Igo, the Dallas Police Department has issued 2,500 citations this year as a result of its enforcement efforts.
