WYLIE, TexasOn Friday, the sentence of a Texas man who invaded the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, was lowered.
The sentence of Guy Reffitt of Wylie, who the prosecution claimed was the “tip of the mob’s spear” during the attack, was reduced by seven months.

The resentencing follows the Supreme Court’s June ruling that dismissed his obstruction charge. According to the verdict, there must be evidence that defendants attempted to alter or destroy papers in order to be charged with impeding an official procedure.
Reffitt has been given a new prison term of six years and eight months.
On January 6, 2021, the Texas Three Percenters militia member sprinted toward the Capitol while wearing a helmet, body armor, zip ties, and a holstered weapon.
After being pepper sprayed by the police, Reffitt fled, but he waved to other rioters who eventually made their way inside.
According to the prosecution, Reffitt informed his fellow Texas Three Percenters members that he intended to pull House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by the ankles and drag her out of the Capitol building “with her head hitting every step on the way down.”

As he listened to the court and prosecutor discuss the Capitol attack, Reffitt shook his head and looked irate.
He stormed into a tirade against the judge, using foul language.
When Reffitt declared, “I was not there to take over no government,” “I love this country.”
Prosecutors stated in court filings that Reffitt “views his imprisonment as an injustice and as part of a greater cause, and that he maintains pride in actions on January 6 and his involvement in the community of those who he believes have been wrongly prosecuted for their crimes on that day.” This is evident from his call and text messages from jail.
Reffit was found guilty on four more counts in addition to the obstruction allegation. After returning to Wylie, he was charged with threatening his teenage children.

Jackson, Reffitt’s son, testified against his father throughout the trial. According to him, his father warned him and his younger sister that reporting him to the FBI would be considered traitorous and that “traitors get shot.”
At his resentencing, Reffitt’s two daughters gave a speech. They characterized him as a kind father who is not dangerous to anyone.
