DALLAS: An employee of the Dallas Police Department was let go after it was alleged that she had lied about her college degree in order to advance in her career.
Police report representative Gina Fowler-Strickland was dismissed on Thursday following a disciplinary hearing with the police chief.
Strickland was dismissed for “engaging in adverse conduct when she was arrested for the offense of fraudulent, substandard or fictitious degree,” according to a statement from the department.
There were no specifics provided about the “adverse conduct.”
In June 2022, Strickland was accused of lying about a postsecondary degree to earn a promotion. According to court documents FOX 4 was able to obtain, she was charged with fraud and bogus degree in June 2023.
A warrant for Stickland’s arrest was issued in September after she failed to appear at a court hearing. Later, for unclear reasons, that warrant was recalled.
According to court documents, once Strickland finished a pre-trial intervention program, the DA’s office finally dropped the charge in November.

In Texas, lying about a postsecondary degree to obtain a job or a promotion is a class B misdemeanor, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 180 days and a fine of $2,000 each year.
