DALLAS—A book about Black Americans who identify as Republicans was written by a woman from Dallas.
It’s entitled “Being Black and Republican in the Age of Trump.”
Because she wants people to understand that the Republican Party is the party of opportunity for everyone, Watson says she created the book.
Throughout Texas, Republicans demonstrated their strength in the 2024 election. By unexpected margins, Republicans won elections from the top of the ticket to the bottom. The FOX Texas Trio discusses the implications of the election for the Lone Star State’s future.
The book, written by a Dallas native, was published in October, just before the election in which the Republican Party took control of both chambers of Congress and the White House, and more Black people voted Republican.
Nine percent of Black women and 19 percent of Black men are in question. “That’s enormous,” she remarked.

“It is a common misconception that Black Republicans dislike the Black community, but that is completely untrue. They believe that Black Republicans don’t take pride in their race. “That is absolutely untrue,” Watson remarked. “The exact opposite is true. Republicans and Black people are merely independent thinkers who believe that everyone has the right to make their own decisions.
Cal Jillson, a professor of political science at SMU, claims that younger Black men might sway on the basis of purported party devotion.

“There is some movement in that direction, and part of it is the maturation and growth and development of the Black middle class,” he stated. “You may be a highly capable Black citizen, and there is a sense of solidarity within the Black community that recognizes that how Black people are received in the nation sort of fluctuates. However, you’re still constrained if you’re grouped in with the Black community’s discrimination in general. Additionally, the Democratic Party has attacked those boundaries more than the Republican Party in recent decades.
This contributes to Watson’s belief that some Black people have shifted to the right.
“We are human. “We are entitled to the same respect and opportunities,” she stated. However, our votes have been taken for granted much too frequently.
