FORT WORTH, Texas—On Tuesday evening, the tallest live Christmas tree in Texas was lit at Sundance Square in Fort Worth.

The 82-foot Norway Spruce from Cadillac, Michigan, is 52 feet taller than the White House’s National Christmas tree and 8 feet taller than the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York City.

More than 100 local artists have painted the ornaments by hand. The diameter of each decoration exceeds two feet.

The Fort Worth Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place for the 78th time in 2024. Amon Carter Sr. initiated the custom in 1947.



Candy Williams and Mariachi Herencia de Mexico, two-time Grammy nominees, played the opening numbers.

The event will last until 10:30 p.m., but the tree lighting took place at 7 p.m.
