Trial begins for Lewisville pawn shop murder suspect

DENTON, Texas:On Tuesday, the guy who is suspected of shooting and killing the owner of a pawn store in Lewisville in February of last year will go on trial in Denton County.

Since he was sixteen years old, Daniel White had been employed by the family business at the pawn shop.

But while he was opening the store for the day on February 14, 2023, three persons allegedly tried to rob him, according to the police. He was killed by gunfire.

Henry Powell, who passed away in January, was the registered owner of the getaway car used by the suspects. According to a report from the day after Powell was discovered dead in his Dallas apartment, Powell’s car was gone and the house had been broken into.

Police charged 18-year-old Jatevon Johnson with capital murder less than two weeks later.

Since his arrest, Johnson has been housed at the Denton County jail.

Damonta Skinner and Denyrion Skinner, the other two suspects, were also taken into custody and accused of capital murder. This week, they have hearings for announcements.

On Monday, a jury was chosen and sworn in regarding Johnson.
