DallasEarlier this month, a man was charged with hurting a flight attendant while attempting to open the door of a Milwaukee – Dallas flight.

Abdul-al-Jabbar Oloruntoba Olaiya, 29, is accused of intimidating or assaulting a flight crew member in order to interfere with their work.

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, he was formally taken into custody and appeared in court for the first time.

On November 19, around two hours into American Airlines flight 1915, Olaiya lost his temper with a flight attendant.

Law enforcement was informed by witnesses that Olaiya told the flight attendant that he was the “captain of this flight” and that he had to disembark.

The man hit the flight attendant after rushing her and lunging for an airplane door, according to the incident report.

Charlie Boris of Wisconsin and Doug McCright of McKinney were among the passengers who bound the Olaiya’s hands and feet with restraining tape. The final half of the flight was spent holding the man down.

Boris remarked, “It was kind of a fight or flight situation,” “And everyone just really helped and put together effort, and we all get to go to Thanksgiving.”

Following the plane’s landing, Olaiya was taken for a mental health evaluation by the FBI and DFW Airport Police.

Olaiya may spend up to 20 years in federal prison if found guilty.

The flight attendant sustained nec and wrist injuries. A few while later, she was discharged from the hospital.
