In a remarkable case from Oklahoma, a doctor who treated children in Ecuador now faces a long prison sentence due to the efforts of an incredible K9 named Rosco. This dog, trained to detect specific chemicals, played a key role in the doctor’s arrest for creating explicit content involving minors. Rosco is not just any dog; he is a specialized electronic sniffer dog that can identify the scent of chemicals used on data storage devices, including tiny micro SD cards.
Rosco works alongside his partner, Lieutenant John Haning, as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Rogers County, Oklahoma. This duo has gained recognition for their success in fighting child exploitation cases. Last year, another K9 on the task force, a black Labrador named Ruger, discovered a laptop filled with evidence hidden under a sofa cushion during a raid.
These cases highlight how important it is for law enforcement to be thorough. As Lieutenant Haning explained, if they miss just one piece of technology—be it a cell phone, computer, or hidden camera—it could mean another victim may not get the help they need or that a predator may continue to harm children.
Though they primarily work in the United States, the team’s expertise has led them to assist in cases around the world. They received a call to help with a significant police operation in Ecuador, where they were asked to find a high-profile doctor involved in creating and sharing harmful content online. Lieutenant Haning and Rosco quickly agreed to help, stating, “When they called up and said, ‘Hey, we need your help,’ we jumped at it.”
During the operation, police forcibly entered the doctor’s home, and Rosco went to work immediately, searching for hidden storage devices that might contain evidence of the doctor’s crimes. However, Rosco’s talents don’t stop at detecting technology. He is also trained to provide comfort and support.
During the raid, a 15-year-old girl with special needs was present and became very upset and uncontrollable. Recognizing her distress, Rosco approached the girl and gently comforted her. Miraculously, she calmed down almost instantly, showcasing the amazing bond between dogs and humans, especially in times of crisis.
Rosco’s success as a K9 is not just about finding evidence; it’s about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. By sniffing out hidden devices, Rosco and Lieutenant Haning are working hard to prevent future victims from suffering at the hands of predators.

Their teamwork is a perfect example of how modern technology and traditional methods can come together for a noble cause. With dogs like Rosco and Ruger on their side, law enforcement is better equipped to tackle the challenges posed by child exploitation.
As they continue to handle cases both locally and internationally, Rosco and his team exemplify the important role that K9s play in law enforcement. Their work not only leads to arrests but also comforts those in need, reminding us all of the powerful connection between humans and their furry companions.
