Mid-Island’s 10-year-old baseball team, led by manager Joe Calabrese, is on a roll. Despite his belief that the team has yet to play a complete game, they’ve shown impressive skill by remaining undefeated. They’ve already secured titles in both District 24 and Section 3 South.
On Tuesday, the Mid-Island squad proved their strength in the opening round of the New York State (NYS) tournament. They delivered a decisive 15-4 victory over New City (D18) at Logan Field, hosted by Union Endicott Little League.
Manager Joe Calabrese, who has been pushing his team to strive for a full-game performance, saw his players rise to the occasion. The team’s powerful offense and solid defense were evident as they dominated the game from start to finish.
“This is just the beginning,” Calabrese said after the game. “We’ve been working hard, and it’s great to see the boys put together such a strong performance. But we know we can still do better.”
The win advances Mid-Island to the winner’s bracket, where they will face Baldwinsville (D8) on Wednesday afternoon at noon. The team’s success so far in the tournament is a testament to their hard work and determination as they continue their quest for the state title.
