This decision comes after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, unable to manage its debts and financial obligations.
Redbox, once a staple for movie rentals alongside the rise of streaming services, has been impacted heavily by the shift towards digital media consumption. Despite maintaining a presence across Idaho, the closure marks the end of an era for physical media enthusiasts.
According to reports from NBC and The Verge, Chicken Soup for Soul Entertainment’s bankruptcy filing was accompanied by severe financial strains, including defaulted loans and vehicle repossessions. Employees also faced challenges with unpaid wages and discontinued health benefits.
The closure announcement came abruptly, catching many customers off guard. Attempts to access Redbox’s website post-announcement resulted in error messages, indicating the immediate impact of the decision on service availability.
